Polyurethane Paints – Using Them Properly
If you are into model or raft making, you can depend upon Polyurethane Paints to give you a hard glossy finish. These paints can be applied to any surface. There are different kinds of polyurethane, so there are different ways of applying its different types. The intended use and the size of the project determine the most appropriate way of applying such paints.
Identification: These paints are commonly used for crafts. These paints deliver a hard, glossy, and thick finish, that’s more like an automobile finish, because of which they are frequently used for marine and boats application.

Features: polyurethane is a plastic based compound and is used for making many items, from baby toys to buildings. Depending on the process of manufacturing and the formulation the output may be soft for making liquid varnishes or hard for making furniture. Polyurethane paints are available in the form of semi gloss satin or high gloss furniture. These are used for most types of plastics, fiberglass, fabrics and metals. Apart from giving a perfectly glossy finish, these paints have another characteristic of being resistant to water and gasoline, encouraging their use for model making. Though these paints take longer to get dried up, the coating is thick and durable.
Types: These paints come in many colors including clear topcoat. Usually stores sell these paints in ready to use form contained in spray cans. Their handling needs extra care as in case of the drying catalyst not being mixed correctly, the final finish could crack or bubble may appear after use. Thinner polyurethane paints give better results on being used for painting model airplanes or fabrics.

Most of the polyurethane paints are applied using a spray can or spray gun. Some formulations of paints with polyurethane can be applied using a brush. Polyurethane paints are not suggested for painting homes, though clear finishes of polyurethane are may be applied on furniture, floors and woodworks.
